Whale and Dolphin Expedition

An Expedition with The Marine Mammals Research Association Aboard S/Y Chance Discovery

Join an exciting Research Expedition whilst experiencing an incredible sailing trip living aboard Chance Discovery.

Participate in sailing the yacht, join in with the research team or just sit back, relax and watch the team in action.

The expedition aims to explore areas where there is little known. The expert research team will introduce the wonders of marine mammals, their main threats and how to contribute to protecting their vulnerable world. You will be given the chance to experience unforgettable close encounters with these magnificent creatures, and learn the essential role they play in our oceans. You will see first hand the scientific data collection process through visual sightings, live genetic samplings and hydrophone and drone recordings.

We are likely to encounter Common Bottlenose dolphin, Striped dolphin, Short-beaked common dolphin, Risso’s dolphin, Sperm whale, Cuvier’s beaked whale, Fin whale and maybe the Mediterranean monk seal and the Humpback Whale. All are categorized as Threatened or Data Deficient. It is therefore vital to research and monitor these populations and work towards necessary conservation measures. For this reason, our pioneering expedition aims to fill the knowledge gaps through integrating hi-tech research with conservation actions.

The expedition covers the coastal and offshore waters of South Adriatic to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea starting in Montenegro and ending in Turkey. Join us for any one part or all of the one week legs of the expedition. Space is limited to a maximum of 4 guests using two of the master stateroom, forward double or Pullman with two single bunks.
